Guidelines for Presenters

Oral Presentation

All sessions are 90 minutes long and include five presentations. Talks are scheduled at 18 minute intervals allowing for a 15 minute talk and a 2-3 minute question period. If the presenter plans more time for discussion, the time of presentation should be shorter than 15 minutes.
Please keep to this timetable as closely as possible. It is highly unfair to the other speakers if one speaker takes up more than his/her allotted time

LCD projectors will be available in each conference room. PowerPoint presentations can be uploaded at the desk beside the Conference Reception Desk. We recommend presenters to bring  presentation on two carriers: USB stick and CD.

Please, bring your CD or USB stick at the Welcome desk to enable our technicians to prepare your presentations on time as soon as possible upon your arrival. Presentations must be compatible with Windows, XP, Office XP (PowerPoint) and Windows Media Player. Presenters will not be allowed to use their own laptops for presentation.

Poster Presentation

The poster session room is located at the lower ground floor basement of the hotel Ambasador (in front of the pool). The size of the poster paper should be 90 cm (width) x 120 cm (height). Material necessary for attaching the poster to the poster board will be provided by the organizers.

Posters will be displayed for one day.  Presenters will stand by their poster during the time scheduled in the conference programme. Handouts of posters are encouraged, but the handouts should be prepared because there will be no copying service available at the conference site.

Authors are kindly asked to put up their posters at least 15 minutes before the session starts, and to take the posters down at the end of the poster session.

Chair

The sessions will bring together people from different backgrounds and will encourage an active and enriching interaction between speakers and participants. The symposia will last 90 minutes and each speaker is allowed 18 minutes: 15 minutes to present the work and 2-3 minutes for Questions and Answers. Chairs are kindly requested to arrive at least 10 minutes before the session begins. A volunteer student will be present to help with the equipment. Before the session the Chair checks whether all presenters are present and verifies whether the presenters are the first authors of the abstracts, so you announce the right persons. The Chair will introduce the speakers, keep the time, and manage the question and answer period. The Chair is free and encouraged to ask questions, as well. It is recommended that chairs read the abstracts of the presentations in advance and prepare to ask a question for each presentation, in case none emerge from the audience. In the event that a paper is cancelled, the time is to be used as a short intermission for additional discussion. The schedule of the scientific programme is very tight so, we need your cooperation. All Chairs must make sure that scheduling is respected.

Discussants at Symposia

Aim of the symposia is to take a more thorough look at some specific topic by illuminating it from different angles. The discussant is an expert who can guide the audience by giving a summary of the topic, highlighting the main contributions of the papers. Discussants are encouraged to prepare a brief concluding overview of the topic, summarising the aspects covered by the papers. After all the presentations have been given with a couple of minutes discussion time for each, discussant presents the overview.
